ROAD CONSTRUCTION PLANNED: Annapolis Severn River Bridge ~ US Rt 50

 Expect Delays on Route 50 Eastbound beginning in September 2017

FALL 2017 ~ The Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration (SHA) has completed the planning and design phase for improvements that will add an additional eastbound lane to the US 50 bridge over the Severn River in Anne Arundel County. The construction work is set to begin soon and be completed by May/June 2018.

If you live on the Broadneck Peninsula, the Eastern Shore or have crossed the bridge to go to the beach or shop the outlets, you know that traffic can be beastly most days. Add in weather or an accident and the traffic can come to a complete halt without an exit to escape.

The frequent congestion at this bottleneck has raised concerns from the public and local governments. Both Anne Arundel and Queen Anne's counties have made this a top priority. The City of Annapolis has also weighed in on their concern of overflow and cut through traffic through neighborhoods when the bridge is congested or an accident has traffic backed up for hours.

Expect further delays and congestion as a result of the changing road patterns over the next several months while SHA works to complete the $25 million construction project.
