At Home: Surround Yourself with Wonderful Aromas Through the Holidays

Make your own scent-sational holiday potpourri for a fragrant welcome home

Ever notice how we associate certain aromas with certain times of the year? There’s the ever-present smell of fresh flowers in spring and sunscreen and salt water in summer, for example. The same is certainly true when the weather turns cooler and various scents abound.

Here are three great ideas for filling your home with fragrant holiday potpourri this season, using all-natural ingredients. You just simply place the ingredients into a pot filled with water, and simmer on the stovetop. Feeling generous? Forgo the water and place the dry ingredients in a mason jar for a sweet-smelling holiday gift!

Autumn Stroll

Fall always entices the senses with its incredibly vivid sights and aromas. Capture the essence of this season in your home by combining 2 sliced apples, 2 cups orange peels, 2 cinnamon sticks, ¼ teaspoon whole cloves, 2 bay leaves, and 2 star anise to make an amazing autumn potpourri.

Home for the Holidays

The holidays are a special time, especially at home on a cold winter night. Enjoy the scent of the season by blending 2 sliced oranges, 1 cup cranberries, 3 teaspoons ground cloves, 2 teaspoons nutmeg, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, and 2 sprigs of rosemary as a festive finishing touch.

Crisp Winter Morning

One of the strongest scents associated with the holiday season is pine. Create your own indoor winter-scented wonderland with 3 sprigs evergreens or a handful of pine needles, 2 cups rosemary, 2 cups lavender, 1 cup eucalyptus leaves, ½ cup peppermint or spearmint, and ½ cup bay leaves.
